I’m looking now for a good alternative. The most popular one is TripIt, but actually i don’t like it. As someone on twitter described it:

Is there any viable alternative to Dopplr.com? tripit is like using SAP for counting apples.

TripIt is definitely too much focussed on the corporate traveller and imo lacks a lot of features that Dopplr has. But even if I want to switch to TripIt, it seems i have to re-enter all my data. There is no way of importing data in TripIt. Luckily, at least you can download all your data in Dopplr in iCal and JSON format. Perhaps someone can write an application that uses the datadump and TripIt API to migrate?

Any suggestions are welcome!

Update 25-1: It seems to work again?

Ik heb ze in 2007 in het Gelredome gezien en afgelopen zomer in het Westerpark. Geweldige shows, met een mix van de bekende oude hits, nieuwe hits en rustigere nummers. Dat wordt vanaf nu dus nog alleen maar plaatjes draaien…

Het was weer een tijdje stil bij Faithless maar binnenkort komen ze met een nieuw album (‘The Dance’). Inmiddels is een de video van de nieuwe single ‘Not Going Home’ uit en dat belooft veel goeds. Faithless is natuurlijk bekend van ‘God is a DJ’ en dergelijke hits die er om vragen om met het volume op 100% gedraaid te worden. Maar, Faithless kent ook veel nummers en albums die betrekkelijk rustig zijn, en eigenlijk een heel andere kant laten zien. Die mix maakt het ‘typisch Faithless’. De naam van het album en het beluisteren van de nieuwe single en een ander nieuw nummer (‘Sun to me’) wekt het vermoeden dat ze dit keer weer met een plaat komen die ook in een club te draaien is! Ben benieuwd…

Op 7 mei staan ze in Paradiso (binnen 10 min uitverkocht) en op 2 juli staan ze in het Westerpark (Adam). Ik ga ze waarschijnlijk zien in het Westerpark, de vorige keer in het Gelredome in Arnhem was een geweldige ervaring. Maar ik zou ze ook graag in een kleinere zaal willen zien, dus ik kijk nog even of dat ik een kaartje daar probeer te bemachtigen.

Dinsdag was Dirk Scheringa op uitnodiging van studievereniging Stress op de UT om een lezing te geven. Medewerkers en studenten van de UT waren hiervoor uitgenodigd. Pers mocht echter niet aanwezig zijn. Dit was vastgelegd in een contract met Stress, en het niet navolgen hiervan zou leiden tot een flinke boete. De UT nieuws was hier van te voren over ingelicht. Ondanks dat ze de mogelijkheid kregen om een interview te houden (!) wilden ze toch komen.

De organisatie heeft uiteindelijk een redacteur uit de zaal gezet die toch was gekomen. Nu zijn ze op de teentjes getrapt (snap ik ook wel, er is iets gaafs, en jij mag er niet bij zijn.). Maar in plaats van dan maar geen of een klein artikeltje te schrijven wordt er nu complete huilie huil gedaan op de voorpagina van de UT nieuws. Journalistiek is ver te zoeken: het stuk kan zo door de Telegraaf overgenomen worden. Sensationele zinnen (“…finaal in de fout…“, “…naive opmerking…“) maken het verhaal laag, maar het dieptepunt wordt toch wel bereikt door uitgebreid met naam en toenaam te vermelden welke student van de organisatie de binnengeglipte redacteur opmerkte. Rond uit ‘Duits’ dus, het UT Nieuws wil maar niet begrijpen dat er een contract was waar een flinke boete aan verbonden zat bij het niet naleven!

Het CvB hebben ze trouwens gelijk om een reactie gevraagd, waarbij ik de opmerking van Anne Flierman “Of we blij moeten zijn met een lezing van een figuur als Scheringa laat ik in het midden” niet van professionaliteit vind getuigen.

Inmiddels heeft Geenstijl het ook gezien, en het begint nu landelijk te rollen. Helaas wat tot nu toe elk artikel gebaseerd op de UT nieuws, waar het de vraag is of bijv. het CvB wel volledig gequote is. Want stemmingmakerij, dat kunnen ze nu wel.

What is Europe3D

The aim of the Europe3D seminar is to present the country that hosts it under 3 distinct Dimensions: Politics, Economy, and Culture. The seminar aims to be a melting pot of cultures, raising discussions and debates among the participants and allowing them to get a picture of the hosting country.

Who Can Join?

ESTIEM is welcoming every student from any country worldwide and any discipline to apply for one of the Europe3D seminars organised by the Finnish and the Swedish Local Groups. You only need to have high interest in learning more about the Finnish or Swedish culture and about the political and economical situation of the two countries, and of course a great motivation.

Please note that the two events are independent, only promoted jointly. Applying for one of the events does not mean you have to join the other one.

How Much does it Cost?

The participation fee should be paid cash at the beginning of the event. This fee includes accommodation, meals, seminars, visits and transportation during the event

You need to cover your travel expenses to and from the event and we also recommend you to bring some pocket-money for party-drinks or other things you may need during the event.
